ABOUT THE ARTIST

John ‘TBone’ Paxton started working in 1980 with a very popular band around Detroit called the Sun Messengers. They toured the east coast, Midwest and deep south for a number of years. Back then T-Bone was awarded a Motor City Music Award for best trombonist. Since that time, he has also become quite an engaging vocalist. In fact, he has been nominated a number of years in a row now as best jazz vocalist at the Detroit Music Awards. He and RJ Spangler are cornerstone members of the Planet D Nonet, and as such, have toured to 11 states, released as many CDs and garnered nine Detroit Music Awards.

A big love for all music and a special heartfelt place for jazz and rhythm and blues, Camille Price has performed all over the Metro Detroit area in clubs, concert and private gigs. A warm and compelling singer, Price has an enthusiastic sense of humor and clearly enjoys double entendres. She has joined her eastside bandmember friends in several groups through the years, notably as the female vocalist for the award-winning Planet D Nonet. She has been featured on several of their recordings, including A Tribute to Billy Strayhorn, The Kings of Kansas City Swing, A Tribute to Buddy and Ella Johnson. She is presently recording and doing shows with the world-renowned drummer John Bandanjek in his group, The Murder Hornets, featuring his poetic and highly original rock songs. Price is delighted to join John “Tbone” Paxton for this night of Kittens & Crooners.

ABOUT THIS SERIES

Six years ago, we came up with a new live music series – Kittens & Crooners – to celebrate the music and style of our country’s classic jazz singers like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Lena Horne, Tony Bennett, and Rosemary Clooney. The four shows we held in 2016 at the Tipping Point Theater in Northville went over so well that we continued presenting live jazz at that venue until the pandemic put a halt to indoor concerts. (Don't worry, we'll be doing more shows at the Tipping Point.) In early 2022, we revived Kittens & Crooners in another intimate venue that’s perfect for this type of performance: the lower level of Ciao Amici's restaurant in downtown Brighton.
